"Tourists, Pompeii"

After taking dozens of pictures of ruined buildings, artifacts, and casts of bodies of victims at Pompeii, I spotted this scene. I wanted to capture the tourists’ fascination with this ancient tragedy. This scene did that, but I was also amused by the contrast between the interest of the tourists, especially the photographer, with the total disinterest of the sleeping dog. Most people, however, comment on the boy’s fascination with the photographer and I wasn’t consciously aware of his reaction.
