Lester Benson was hands down the best shoe repairman in Chester County. People came from Dekalb and Xavier just to have him work on their shoes. He could turn a worn-out sneaker into a lightning-fast running machine. He could transform a boot, in its final stages of decay, into a swanky, butt-kicking earth stomper. But he never let the success go to his head. He was, after all, just a man.
