Reflections is built on a strong and established conceptual foundation that the female nude figure has been a symbol for thousands of years. Not just femininity, but the female nude has been a symbol of birth, life, humanity, mortality and Utopia. Shot in complete darkness except for the illumination from a television and shot with the camera actually pointed away from the subject crosses boundaries between voyeurism and indifference. Symbolism embraces symbol. A nontraditional light source and shooting into a mirror force the artist and the patron to look at life through a different lens. The message is experimentation and duplicity. Dare to look away. See what may have been unobtrusive, only with reflections. |
